Empowering Bihar’s Communities with Nari Gunjan in 2025

Creating opportunities through education, livelihood development, and women's empowerment in Bihar.

Nari Gunjan, established in 1987, works to improve the lives of the Musahar community in Bihar through education, livelihood development, and women’s empowerment.

The organization addresses the challenges of poverty, low literacy, social discrimination, and limited access to essential services by creating opportunities for sustainable growth and self-reliance.

Impact and Progress of Our Work with Nari Gunjan:

Joy of Helping has partnered with Nari Gunjan to strengthen education, livelihood, and skill development opportunities for the Musahar community, with a special focus on women and children.

  • Through the Beautician Training Program, 60 women from 24 villages enrolled in a six-month course covering beauty services, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. The top 10 trainees will receive starter kits to begin their own businesses.
  • To support education, Joy of Helping helped install computers and smart digital boards at learning centres in Patna and Bodh Gaya. The initiative benefits 250 students, improving digital literacy and interactive learning.
  • Joy of Helping also supports dairy-based livelihoods, providing seven Musahar women with dairy cows to improve household income, nutrition, and financial security.
  • Through the Mushroom Cultivation Initiative, 35 households were selected, with 21 members receiving technical training in cultivation, entrepreneurship, and market linkages. Mushroom units and cultivation kits are now being established to support sustainable livelihoods.
  • Through its partnership with Nari Gunjan, Joy of Helping continues to expand access to education, strengthen livelihoods, and empower the Musahar community with opportunities for long-term independence and a better quality of life.
