About

Prof. Madhuri Kulkarni currently serves as an Honorary Senior Consultant Pediatrician at Mumbai Port Trust Hospital in Mumbai.

 

Since 1998, Dr. Kulkarni has held the position of Founder Trustee at the Child Welfare Trust in Bhuj, where she also works as a consulting Pediatrician, providing her expertise to the Dhanvantri School for Special Children, which is managed by the Trust.

 

Prof. Dr. Madhuri Kulkarni, with M.D. in Pediatrics, D.C.H, and PGDJJJJ qualifications, has a distinguished career. She retired as the Professor and Head of the Department of Pediatrics at L.T.M. Medical College & L.T.M. General Hospital, Mumbai, in 2008. Her medical and postgraduate education was completed at Seth G. S. Medical College, Mumbai. She commenced her teaching career as a Pediatrics lecturer at T.N. Medical College, later advancing to the roles of Associate Professor, Professor, Head of Department, and Dean In-charge at L.T.M. Medical College and General Hospital, Mumbai.

During her tenure at L.T.M.G. Hospital, Dr. Kulkarni established several significant clinics, including the Early Intervention Clinic for developmentally subnormal children in 1985, the Pediatric Neurology Clinic in 1992, and the Learning Disability Clinic in 1995. This pioneering multidisciplinary clinic became the first in Maharashtra authorized to certify children with learning disabilities for various provisions. In 1996, the Government of Maharashtra issued a Resolution to grant provisions at the ninth and tenth standards. The Department of Education and the Education Board of Maharashtra recognized the Learning Disability Clinic at L.T.M.G. Hospital for the assessment and certification of children with Learning Disabilities. Dr. Kulkarni and her team conducted numerous awareness programs for educators, psychologists, counselors, general practitioners, and pediatricians in various regions of the country. This initiative gained momentum in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa, leading to children with Specific Learning Disabilities receiving provisions from Standard I to XII and at the university level. The recognition of this disability has now extended to the national level.

In recognition of her contributions, Dr. Kulkarni received the “Top Ten Women of The City” award from the Junior Chamber International-India Zone XI Mumbai in 2009. In 2011, she was honored with the ‘Samaj Shakti Award’ in the field of Medicine by the Hariharputra Bhajan Samaj, Mumbai. Additionally, in March 2015, Dr. Kulkarni was bestowed with the ‘Mahila Gaurav Purskar’ by the Brahman Sabha Girgaon, Mumbai.
