Mr. Ramesh Mehta

District Governor for Lions International District 411 (Kenya,Uganda,Tanzania and Ethiopia)

Area of Intervention

About

Mr. Ramesh Mehta, a devoted member of the Lions Fraternity for the past 45 years, is dedicated to making a difference in the western province around Kisumu by tackling the issue of blindness.

Mr. Mehta’s primary focus has been on addressing the prevalent causes of blindness in the region, primarily cataracts and refractive errors. Over the years, he has tirelessly worked to combat cataract blindness, notably through organizing Free Eye Camps in rural areas. However, despite these efforts, cataract-induced blindness remains widespread in the Western Province around Kisumu. The absence of a specialized facility exacerbates this situation, as evidenced by the overwhelming turnout at the free eye camps, with hundreds seeking assistance.

Born in Bhanvad, India, Mr. Mehta received his primary and secondary education in Kisumu. In his pursuit of knowledge, he obtained a diploma in Business Management and even delved into an Interior Decoration course during his spare time, as a hobby.

Mr. Mehta’s dedication to Lions International is reflected in his election as the District Governor for Lions International District 411, encompassing Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. He achieved this honor at the 32nd Annual District Convention held in Dar es Salaam in April 1994, showcasing his active involvement in the Lions Fraternity for the past 45 years.

His exceptional contributions have not gone unnoticed, earning him several prestigious awards, including the 100% District Governor’s Award and the District Governor’s Excellence Award from the International Association of Lions Clubs. In January 1997, he was appointed as a Special Secretary of a committee tasked with examining the Terms and Conditions of Service for various critical roles within Kenya’s security and youth services. Additionally, in December 2006, he received recognition for his outstanding and distinguished services to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities.

Mr. Ramesh Mehta has also been granted the honor of being an Officer Brother of the Most Venerable Order of Kisumu by the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in acknowledgment of his selfless service to humanity.

Mr. Mehta has held various significant roles:

  • Regional Council Chairman at St. John’s Ambulance, Kisumu County.
