Empowering Musahar Families Through Mushroom Cultivation with Nari Gunjan

To combat poverty and malnutrition, Joy of Helping and Nari Gunjan launched the Mushroom Cultivation Project for the Musahar community in Bihar.

What We Did:

  • Trained 150 families in mushroom farming, providing starter kits and ongoing support.
  • Focused on sustainable livelihoods and improved nutrition, especially for children.

Impact:

  • Boosted income and nutrition through low-cost, high-yield farming.
  • Empowered women with economic and social agency.

Milestone:

In December 2024, 700 mushroom kits were distributed to women in Simra village, strengthening women-led farming.

Challenges:

  • Limited space for cultivation at home.
  • Early market linkages and care consistency were challenging.

The Road Ahead:

Plans to expand to more villages, create value-added products, and strengthen local markets for lasting impact.

Together, we’re creating lasting change—one harvest at a time.
